What is trixbox? (Formerly Asterisk@Home)
The
asterisk-based solution, trixbox, enables the home or small business user to quickly set up a VOIP Asterisk-based PBX. A web GUI makes configuration and operation easy. We also provide an xPL (home automation) interface for easy interaction with other devices in the home.

FreePBX 2.2b3 Released
November 21, 2006
The FreePBX team has announced the release of FreePBX 2.3 beta 3 today. This version represents tons of bug fixes from the previous beta and is well on its way to finally getting finished.
While we discourage the use of beta software on production machines, if you have a test machine that you can load it onto and help find any remaining bugs, they can certainly use the help in finding any remaining problems.
Expect some upgrade instructions to be available on their website in the next few hours.

Today Kerry Garrison, author of "trixbox Made Easy" and creator of http://asterisktutorials.com has joined Fonality as the Sr. Product Manager for the trixbox project. Kerry brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the project and will help to move the project and the web site forward.
I am very excited to have Kerry on the team, I believe this will make a very positive impact on the future of trixbox. Look for an official press release later on this week.

1.2.3 released
October 24, 2006
1.2.3 should resolve all known trixbox bugs. Including the zaptel echo bug some users have been experiencing.
trixbox 1.2.2 iso and prebuilt VM released
October 16, 2006
trixbox 1.2.2 is proving to be a very stable release. Because it has a
new kernel I have decided to release an iso as well as an upgrade.
Because 1.2.2 fixes all known problems with VMware I will also be
releasing a 1.2.2 pre build VM. The root password for the vm is
"password".
trixbox 1.2.2 released
October 11, 2006
Trixbox users have been reporting stability problem with 1.2. We are
trying to address these with the 1.2.2 release. There are some strange
audio problems with the 42 kernel. This is most apparent with vmware.
When the 42 kernel is used the audio prompts are jittery and broken.
This was not a problem with the 34 kernel.
I am making the 34 kernel the standard for trixbox until further notice. If somebody has a good reason to move to a higher release kernel please post to the forum. But for now this should resolve all the problems with Zaptel. This update has a new yum configuration file that will keep yum from updating the kernel. If you want to update the kernel you can do it manually
The version of Asterisk 1.2.12.1 that is included with the 1.2.1 trixbox patch has a lot of the Asterisk patch files from Digium and other sources included. This may have caused some of the instability and FreePBX reload issues that were reported.
The Asterisk 1.2.12.1 that is included with 1.2.2 has only 4 patches.
SpanDSP – for fax recognition
NV fax detect – allows faxes to be detected on Sip channels and during the playing of audio prompts
HUDlite – a patch that creates some extra Manager messages used by HUDlite to monitor the status of calls
Digium SpeechAPI – used for speech recognition see
http://www.asterisk.org/doxygen/AstSpeech.html
Please test this release as much as possible and post feedback. I hope this will go a long way toward making trixbox a more stable platform.
Type “trixbox-update.sh update” from the command line to install this release.
Fonality Acquires Trixbox
October 4, 2006
In case you haven’t seen the press release yet trixbox is now owned by Fonality. They have agreed to sponsor the trixbox project. Two yeas ago when I started Asterisk@Home as a hobby project I could not have guessed that it would be used world wide by call centers, governments, and small offices.
I want to make trixbox a product that can be used for business not just as a hobby toy. I have been searching for a sponsor that would contribute finical and technical resources to the project without changing the goal. Fonality has agreed to sponsor the project but keep developing it as a GPL open-source project free for everybody.

1.2.1 update available
September 28, 2006
Well its time for another dot release. This one has all the latest from
Digium and a few bug fixes for the auto phone config. Sorry this one
took so long. We are currently working on a better way to handle
upgrades.
Trixbox 1.2 does not run well under VMware. The voicemail prompts break up. This seems to be an incompatibility between Asterisk and the new CentOS 4.4 kernel. I will post instructions for loading the 4.3 kernel if you have VMware.
Type “trixbox-update.sh update” from the command line to install this release.
September 12, 2006
It’s time for another release of trixbox. We have fixed a lot of bugs. SugarCRM should work without any blank pages now. All the latest Software is in this release Asterisk 1.2.11 and CentOS 4.4, etc.
We also have some cool new features. The goal of trixbox is to be the easiest Asterisk install. We now have a service provider wizard that sets up service providers for you. The coolest new feature is the Endpoint Manager. This new endpoint auto-configure system will scan your network for SIP phones and add them to your trixbox!
To use endpoint auto-configure create an extension in FreePBX. Select Endpoint Manager and click Go next to map devices. A list of your SIP devices will appear. Select the mac address of the device you would like to configure and select the FreePBX extension you created. That’s it! Just go into the web config on your device and tell it to load its config files from your trixbox.
There will be more documentation in the documentation section of the
trixbox.org site later this week. Thanks to everybody who donated their time and code to this release!
August 31, 2006
A new free HUDlite has been released by
Fonality with many features and bug fixes. The client can be downloaded from the
hudlite.org. You can use yum to get the new server.
http://www.hudlite.org/modules/smartsection/item.php?itemid=11
Some changes have been made to the ircd.conf file. Yum will install the file but you will have to copy it over your old conf file.
Type these commands from the trixbox command line.
yum -y update hudlite-server ircd-hybrid
cp /etc/ircd/ircd.conf.rpmnew /etc/ircd/ircd.conf
August 2, 2006
I have been testing out a phone auto configure menu for trixbox. This code is alpha but seems to work well in my test environment. You can configure Cisco 7960/7940 and Grandstream phones. Please help me test it out and post comments in the project part of the forum.
Install: from command line.
wget yum.trixbox.org/centos/4/beta/patch_phonecfg.tar.gz
tar xvfz patch_phonecfg.tar.gz
cd patch_phonecfg
./install_phones.sh
Test:
1. Create an extension in FreePBX
2. connect your device to your local network
3. click endpoint Manager -> map devices (this will scan your network for SIP phones)
4. click on the mac address of the device you would like to configure
5. assign it a free pbx extension
6. set you phone to pull configs from your trixbox IP
7. reboot your phone
July 11, 2006
The new 1.1.1 update is available just type “trixbox-update.sh update” from the command line. This update adds all of the 1.1 functionality and also adds PHP 4.3.11 We were having a lot of problems with SugarCRM because the version of PHP that comes with CentOS is not supported by Sugar.
June 22, 2006
trixbox 1.1 released today. The only new feature is Munin a system monitoring package. There are tones of small fixes. Zaptel and conferencing should be working. The latest SugarCRM is included. I will try to get a 1.1 upgrade script ready for next week but 1.0.3 that installs from the upgraded script now should have all the conferencing and zaptel fixes.
All of the non opensource packages have been removed from the ISO so if you use HUDlite you will need to type install-hudlite from command line.
Asterisk@Home 2.8 iso released
April 13, 2006
There are a lot of updates in 2.8. We are now using a stock install of SugarCRM with the Asterisk plug-in. This should make upgrades painless. SpanDSP and NV Fax detect are working with FreePBX.org thanks to a small patch. Future versions of FreePBX.org should have full support. As always we have the latest version of Asterisk and the latest versions of lots of other software packages including CentOS and phpMyAdmin.
The old Maintenance page has been replaced with FreePBX.org plug-ins. Security has been tightened and you can pick your own root password during install. As always you can get a working Voice over IP PBX with all the latest add-ons in less than an Hour!
